Alden Richards And Kathryn Bernardo Hope Their Fans Keep An Open Mind With Their Pairing
Yesterday, March 12, Star Cinema announced that Kathryn Bernardo, 22, and Alden Richards, 27, will be starring in a new movie together! Some fans are even starting to call them “KathDen.” The film will be partly set in Hong Kong and shooting will officially begin in April.

After the news broke out, there were mixed reactions on social media, and it seems like the actors themselves saw it coming. During an interview with ABS-CBN News, both Kath and Alden sincerely asked their fans to give the movie—and their pairing—a chance.
According to Alden, “Sana po suportahan nila, our fandoms. Hinihingi po namin yung pagiging open-minded nila sa proyekto, dahil lahat po ng gagawin namin dito is purely professional. Trabaho lang po and walang personalan talaga. We want to tell a great story with Direk Cathy [Garcia-Molina] and Star Cinema.”
Kathryn said, “Alam ko nagulat sila…Hindi namin ine-expect na lahat tatanggapin nila ‘to. Pero hinihiling namin na sana bigyan kami ng chance. Kasi, napakaganda ng story and sobrang excited kami na mapanood nila yun. Sana, aside sa pagiging open-minded nila, maging isa tayo para sa movie na ‘to. Alam ko may sinu-support tayo na kanya-kanyang fandoms namin, pero dito hinihingi namin yung cooperation niyong lahat.”
“Magiging mahirap siya, pero bagong journey ito para sa amin pareho ni Alden, para sa growth namin. Sana ‘wag niyo kaming iwan dito,” she added.
Alden ended with: “Let the project speak for itself.”
Kath and Alden’s apprehension isn’t unfounded since we all know how intense fans can get (we should know; we’re fans, too). They’ve had their own respective love teams for years and it’s definitely a change to see them paired for a film.
Real-life couple Daniel Padilla and Kathryn, also known as KathNiel, confirmed their relationship in 2018. They started making fans kilig on the big screen through the six-part romantic anthology 24/7 In Love (2012). Their latest film together is the blockbuster hit The Hows Of Us (2018).
AlDub, on the other hand, is a ship name for Alden and Maine Mendoza (also known as Yaya Dub). Their love team was *accidentally* formed in July 2015, during the “Kalyeserye” segment of Eat Bulaga. While fans hoped that they would fall in love IRL, Maine recently confirmed that she’s dating actor Arjo Atayde.
